Academy’s entry-level training goes online

IN time for students and new recruits starting jobs in hospitality this summer the Academy of Food & Wine Service (AFWS) has launched its popular entry-level training course, Licence To Work in Wine Service, in an online format.

The L2W® course provides the basic knowledge and skills necessary for someone to deliver an effective and efficient service in wine and have the confidence to engage with customers.

Said AFWS executive director John Croft: “Since its launch L2W has proved extremely popular. As part of our remit to raise the standard of front-of-house service in the UK we felt it was important to ensure that this basic level training module was accessible in an easy-to-use format that can be completed in the candidates own time.

“We have had a fantastic response to it so far, with a strong level of corporate purchases as well as from individuals.”

The course comprises an interactive learning module followed by an online assessment. After initial login the course is available for 12 weeks with the learning module inaccessible once the candidate begins their assessment.

On successful completion candidates will be issued with a certificate, with three pass classifications – pass (over 65%), credit (over 75%), and distinction (over 85%).

For a limited period the Academy is offering the online L2W course at a special price of £40 for both members and non-members, with concessions available for multiple purchases.

Five further modules will be become available online over the next 12 months: casual dining; fine dining; banqueting & events; customer service; and hot beverages.
